Downtown Escanaba Advertising Campaign
The Downtown Escanaba Advertising Campaign is going strong and constantly growing in its third year. It is a year-round, far-reaching, multi-media marketing effort designed to promote the downtown area's businesses and special events. The advertising campaign utilizes multiple radio stations, print, and television stations to promote the vast array of products and services you can find here in Downtown Escanaba. Print participants include The Daily Press and the U.P. Action. Radio stations include Eagle 107.3, WMXG Mix 106, WDBC/WYKX, and all the stations of the Radio Results Network. TV stations include multiple channels on Charter Communications and TV-6.
For the past three years, the Downtown Development Authority Board has approved $25,000 to be used for this campaign, which focuses on promoting the downtown as a whole and highlights individual businesses. Each business owner pays a low monthly fee to participate in the advertising campaign ($67/mo in 2006/2007, $68 in 2007/2008, and $70 in 2008/2009). The funds received from business owners serve as a match to the DDA funds contributed and provide the financial base of this exciting and efficient program. The campaign runs from November to October of the following year (this year’s program runs November 2008-October 2009). Prior to the expiration of this campaign, the DDA Board will decide if it wishes to renew this program for another year. If the program is renewed, new contracts are presented to business owners in the fall by various media representatives.
DDA businesses have been increasingly responsive to our cooperative campaign. In the 2006/2007 Campaign, forty-four downtown businesses participated. In the 2007/2008 Campaign, forty-six downtown businesses participated. This year, we have forty-eight participating businesses, some from last year and some new. The $61,000 program is an astonishing example of the great things that can happen when people work together to better the downtown. The economical monthly cost allows downtown businesses of all sizes to participate and be recognized for their establishment in the downtown.
